Get a Commercial Auto QuoteYour Personal Policy Won't Cover This
The most dangerous misconception in business insurance is thinking, "I just use my truck for work sometimes, so my personal insurance covers it."
That is often false. Personal auto policies generally exclude business use. If you are hauling tools to a job site, delivering pizza, or carrying clients, a claim on a personal policy can be denied instantly—leaving you personally liable for thousands of dollars.
At River East Insurance, we make sure your vehicles are classified correctly. Whether you have one work van or twenty box trucks, we build a Commercial Auto policy that protects your vehicles, your drivers, and your business assets.

Essential Commercial Auto Coverage
Bodily Injury & Property Damage
The core of the policy. If you or your employee causes an accident, this pays for the other driver's medical bills and vehicle repairs. Commercial limits are typically much higher than personal limits (e.g., $1M).
- Legal Defense Costs
- Settlements & Judgments
- High Limits Available
Collision & Comprehensive
Pays to repair your vehicle if it's damaged in a crash, stolen, vandalized, or hit by a falling tree branch. Essential for newer or leased vehicles.
- Accident Repairs
- Theft & Vandalism
- Weather Damage (Hail/Flood)
Hired & Non-Owned Auto
A critical gap filler. It covers the business if an employee gets into an accident while driving their own personal car for a work errand (like going to the bank or picking up supplies).
- Employee Personal Vehicles
- Rented Business Vehicles
- Protect the Business Assets
Common Commercial Auto Questions
Can I just put my work truck on my personal policy?
Usually, no. If the vehicle is owned by an LLC or used primarily for business (especially if it has ladder racks or signage), most personal carriers will deny the claim. It needs a Commercial policy.
What impacts my Commercial Auto rate?
Driver age and record, vehicle weight/type, radius of operation (how far you drive), and the cargo you haul all play a major role.
Does this cover my tools?
No. Commercial Auto covers the vehicle. You need an "Inland Marine" (Tool Floater) endorsement to cover the expensive tools locked inside.
What if I have a bad driving record?
We have markets for high-risk drivers. It will cost more, but we can get you the filing you need to get back on the road legal.
